Herb
Reisman Environmental Education Center
The Rockland County Solid Waste
Management Authority offers tours to the public of
the Herb Reisman Environmental Education Center. On
the tour you will find out where our garbage goes,
how recycling really works, how to turn leaves, grass
and food waste into compost, how to properly dispose
of household hazardous materials and other important
issues affecting our environment such as energy and
water quality.
Introduction:
When you visit the Education Center, you will be asked
to imagine yourself as an intergalactic researcher
from the planet Argon. As a researcher you will be
taking a journey aboard the space shuttle "Spaceship
Earth", destined for planet Earth. Your mission
is to discover how earthlings manage their solid waste
and conserve resources. You are responsible for gathering
as much information as possible so it can be brought
back and shared with the people of your planet. Argon
has only recently been inhabited and the concept of
solid waste management is known by very few. Argon
has quickly become a world full of pollution and doom.
If something isn't done soon the entire planet will
be taken over by trash and eventually, the precious
resources needed to maintain planetary existence will
be exhausted. Argonians can learn how to preserve
their planet through interactive exhibits aboard "Spaceship
Earth" that teach about recycling, reducing,
reusing, composting and hazardous waste.
The clock is ticking fellow Argonians!
Time is of the essence
your planet is in jeopardy!
